2007 USPS RATE CASE
The 2007 USPS RATE CASEThe upcoming USPS Rate Case has literally created the market for the new AUTO MediaSAFE™ MAILER. With this new rate structure, the USPS is now emphasizing a shape based rate structure as opposed to a weight based. What this means to not only the business mailer, but the average consumer as well, is that the means of which they are currently sending CD's and DVD's through the mail is going to get more expensive.
Currently a 2 oz. mailing via First Class Mail, costs $.63. Under the new shape based structure, automatable letter sized envelopes will require $.58, oversize envelopes (flats) will require $.97 and packages or parcels will require $1.20. This rate structure was proposed to take advantage of the USPS' automation capabilities, therefore items that can be automated are rated better than those that cannot. This effects every person and company who ships single media today.
There are various factors that can decrease this cost for corporate shippers, such as various pre-sort and automation requirements, but even with those advantages, there is still a shape based rating system.
Where does the AUTO MediaSAFE™ MAILER fit in you may ask? With the AUTO MediaSAFE™ MAILER being a little larger than a standard #10 envelope, this mailer abides by the USPS design specifications for a letter, thus offering the least expensive postage. Something no other media mailer on the market can offer.
